Terms & Conditions

Last updated: August 10, 2026. Terms governing the use of Subsurface Atlas mapped soil information tools and educational guides.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Subsurface Atlas, you agree to comply with and be bound by these Terms and Conditions. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the application or its mapped data services.

2. Purpose of Mapped Soil Profiles

Subsurface Atlas compiles public scientific records from official United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) SSURGO databases.

Critical Scientific Disclaimer:

Mapped soil profiles represent regional survey screening data. Mapped data is NOT a substitute for physical site sampling, septic tank percolation testing, wetland delineation, professional land survey, water table monitoring, foundation design, or geotechnical engineering investigations.

3. Mapped Uncertainty & Survey Limitations

Soil survey map units are cartographic polygons created at regional scales (typically 1:12,000 to 1:24,000). A mapped polygon represents a dominant soil series along with minor inclusions and unmapped inclusions. On-site soil conditions at a specific building envelope can differ from the dominant mapped series due to historical grading, excavation, or natural micro-topography.

4. Intellectual Property Rights

All original text, interactive UI tools, visual design components, and visual teaching diagrams on Subsurface Atlas are protected by copyright and intellectual property laws. Public domain scientific metrics sourced from USDA NRCS remain under federal public domain guidelines.

5. Third-Party Links

Subsurface Atlas links to official data sources and other external resources. We are not responsible for the content, availability, privacy practices, or products offered on third-party sites. The site does not currently display Google AdSense advertising.

6. Disclaimer of Warranties & Limitation of Liability

Subsurface Atlas is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not guarantee uninterrupted site availability or error-free upstream data feeds. Under no circumstances shall Subsurface Atlas or its operators be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages resulting from the use of mapped property profiles.

7. Governing Law & Contact Information

These terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable state and federal laws.
